| OUR LEAGUE HISTORY SO FAR | By 2002 the previous Junior League in Salford had virtually disbanded, and many local Clubs were forced to join far away Leagues to continue their football. This resulted in several Salford Clubs getting together to set-up a new City of Salford Soccer League, and to attempt to re-establish youth football on a local basis. They were Barrhill, Beechfield United, De La Salle, Langworthy Juniors, Moorside Rangers, Parkwyddn and Swinton Juniors. Valley Crusaders joined as a new Club for the first season, and Middleton Boys and Urmston Town became "honorary" Salford Clubs by helping to set up the League. The League had 34 Teams at 3 age-groups for 2003/04, which by 2008 has become 108 Teams across 6 age-groups. Being a new League we were able to encompass things like the new Child Protection regulations, the changes to non-competitive at Under 7 & 8, and to build up a solid Management Committee which is now 18 strong. Jack Green has been the League President from 2003, and the League has profited from the Chairmanships of Ged Goodwin, Colin Carter, Brian Elsey and currently Steve Edmonds. Dave Wood (Secretary), Steve Edmonds (Chairman), Graham Pattinson (LWO), Tracey Henry (CS Development Officer) and Louise Sykes (Treasurer) are the current League Trustees. Ken Barnes, Linda Hodgson, Ged Goodwin and Brian Elsey (former Trustees and founders of COSSL) have all called it a day now, and the COSSL thank them all for their valuable contributions over the years. The League has now become the first Manchester FA Charter Standard League in June 2009 which is a remarkable achievement for a very young League. Our main objectives now are to strengthen the Youth Football and build a progression from U-11 to U-16. Exciting times ahead in Salford for all involved, providing we can continue improving the League year on year.
